Hudson told her decorators she wanted a house that was livable but with a hint of formality, "comfortable but with one uncomfortable piece in the room."

Kate Hudson recently worked with W to produce a shoot of her bohemian California retreat that she shares with son, Ryder and her boyfriend dujour. Hudson, a lovely actress and uncanny resemblance to her iconic mother, Goldie, seems to have quite the knack for interior design (a tasteful fusion of an elegant, thoughtfully curated and artful space).

The spread, shot in a grainy - almost out of focus style, seems to fit appropriately with both the space and the mistress of the home.

James Dean's NYC Pad

Until 1953 James Dean was often difficult to locate: He rented a dozen hotel rooms in midtown, none of them for more than a few weeks at a time. His flighty behavior was an attempt at remaining elusive, as his private life was often unconventional and messy. At last however, he settled into a cheap fifth-floor walk-up at 19 West 68th Street, a tiny room with only enough space for a daybed, a built-in desk and a hot plate; there was no kitchen, and the common bath was down the hallway. Guests invariably found his room cluttered with empty bottles of liquor, left-over cartons of food, unsleaved records and dog-eared books.

When the Hollywood icon chose to leave his apartment for an afternoon, he was often seen drinking a beer at Louie's Tavern in Sheridan Square, over a cheap plate of spaghetti at Jerry's Bar and Restaurant on Fifty-fourth Street or lapping up chicken soup at Riker's on Fifty-seventh.

Gweneth's Hampton Home

Gweneth Paltrow is the quintessence of complete Hollywood glamour. Undoubtedly, it is her exclusivity and poise that allows her to navigate a life consumed by fame and celebrity with such beguiling ease. Not only does she prove to the world that the feat of keeping her head above the press' malicious water can be a graceful and possible task, but she amazes and awes regardless of scenario or company. This perhaps, is a product of a level head upon her shoulders and a purposeful decision to remove herself from the limelight when not shooting a film. Gweneth's reluctance to live among the flashbulbs makes her presence all the more in demand.

Surprisingly however, Mrs. Chris Martin opened her home in the Hamptons to House & Garden Magazine (their final issue before the late great magazine folded). Proving to be no exception to her long standing pristine reputation, the home that H&G reveals, possesses the same inherent grace and good taste of the woman who lives there.
